Being able to load, stage, and plug-in 240 reefer containers onsite increases KHOLD’s capacity, improves cold chain efficiencies, and ensures a seamless export process.

The Coega facility expands KHOLD’s geographic footprint to the Eastern Cape, South Africa’s fastest growing, and second biggest, citrus production region.

State-of-the-art fruit packing facility
The 16,000m² facility packs fruit for both export and local markets. In addition to the latest in automated fruit packing equipment, the complex includes de-greening facilities, local market pack-lines, dedicated part pallet refrigerated storage as well as bin washing, nesting, and storage facilities.

Without the need for additional road transport and handling, palletised export product is placed under cooling in the shortest possible time, ensuring the country’s highest standards in export fruit quality.

High-tech cold storage
CFT has the capacity to accommodate up to 8,000 pallets, with individually temperature-controlled cells, sized from as little as 40 pallets, enabling cold-treatment for small consignments in shorter timeframes.

The cold storage operation, with airlock entries and exits, enhances energy efficiency, and allows for strict temperature management, providing an unparalleled service offering in South Africa.

Reefer container depot
The 3,300 TEU container depot provides reefer inspection, maintenance, repair, and specialised preparation services, optimising the availability of correct reefer container equipment for fruit received and cooled at the facility.

With full container handling abilities and 240 container plug-in points, the customers will benefit from uninterrupted container loading, even when container terminal operations come to a standstill.
